Energy bills are at record lows and as competition heats up this winter, we could see even better tariffs emerge.Oil and gas prices have come down to their lowest quarterly average since 2010. Prices have also dramatically dropped since last year with the average household paying £1,098 for energy. Wholesale electricity is 20pc lower than it was at the start of 2014, and wholesale gas is 37pc less.

However, while the prices are also dramatically lower than last year, householders can still make savings when they switch. Those with a keen eye could save over £200 a year. Gas that's to be delivered next year is being traded now. Price change regularly and reflect expecations of supply meeting demand. Currently, the market suggests there is enough supply to meet demand in the UK, which is why the price has gone down.
